To accompany his performance of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, concert organist Martin Setchell invited New Zealand’s leading colourist, Philip Trusttum, to create a corresponding series of paintings. The resulting collaboration performance of Pictures at an Exhibition was first given at the Christchurch Town Hall on May 31, 2003.

Now you can relive that magical evening through DVD or Video. Hear Mussorgsky’s colourful music on the mighty Rieger organ while absorbing Trusttum’s compelling interpretations of each picture.

Also see close-ups of the organist in action, and rare footage of the interior of the organ.

Read the latest exposition about this unique collaboration in the online edition of Art in New Zealand magazine. CONAL McCARTHY follows the artistic process and the fire of creativity that the project unleashed - as well as explaining some of the imagery and symbolism in Trusttum's works.
