CDs of Organ Music

Welcome to the website of the Rieger
pipeorgan home
in the Christchurch Town Hall,
New Zealand

This listing shows CDs which make some claim at having recorded old organ pipework throughout Europe (with Mexico making an occasional appearance). Of course, there will always be debate as to how far "old" flues and reeds are in original condition, and how much they have changed permanently (from subsequent repairs/revoicing/repitching/moving around rackboards).

The cut-off date (1722) is entirely personal. It was a 1950s LP (which claimed to have recorded pre-1640s fluework at Appleby - see next-to-last entry in the list) which started me on this fascinating but unendable trek through the verbal quagmires.

Put another way, this chronological list tries to specify what (1722 or earlier) pipes and reeds would be found in the instruments listed. The information - incomplete as it is - started from "Organ CDs - a Place-Name Index", a copy of which is available at BL and other music libraries (ISSN 0960-488X).
