"Pink and White"
Released by Atoll March 23, 2005
Concert organist Martin Setchell has just released a new recording of the Christchurch Town Hall pipe organ. Called “Pink and White”, it’s a unique recording of entirely New Zealand organ music 1944-2004, including some works not previously recorded on CD, and some brand new works.
Taking its title from a work he commissioned from Anthony Ritchie that was inspired by the destruction of the pink and white terraces during the eruption of Mt Tarawera, “Pink and White” is a ground-breaking showcase for eight New Zealand composers.

"What
a life-enhancing force, a veritable tonic for a citys musical
life a musician like Martin Setchell must be! Since his arrival
in New Zealand from England in 1974, hes given Christchurch
the benefit of his manifold activities as a performer and teacher,
and, more recently as curator of the new Rieger pipe organ in the
Christchurch Town Hall, installed in 1997. The two discs under review
testify to his skill at bringing out all the sonic splendours and
colouristic beauties of this splendid instrument."
- Peter Mechen,
reviewing the first two CDs recorded by organ curator Martin Setchell
on the Christchurch Town Hall Rieger.
